Chris Hoedt, MD Orthopaedic Surgeon Hip & Knee Replacement Specialist
Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon | Fellowship-Trained in Adult Reconstruction
Dr. Chris Hoedt is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement at CarolinaEast Orthopedics in New Bern, North Carolina. He cares for patients throughout Eastern North Carolina, helping them manage joint pain, restore mobility, and return to the activities that matter most. His practice focuses on first-time joint replacements but includes complex revision procedures for patients with problems after a previous hip or knee replacement.
Dr. Hoedt earned his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Cooper University Hospital. He then completed fellowship training in adult reconstruction at the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in the intricate details of hip and knee replacement.
His surgical expertise includes bikini incision anterior hip replacement, quadriceps-sparing knee replacement, partial knee replacement, and revision hip and knee surgery. He tailors surgical techniques and technology to each patient’s anatomy, overall health, and treatment goals, with careful attention to preparation and recovery.
Dr. Hoedt’s approach to care begins with understanding how joint pain affects each patient’s daily life—and what they hope to regain through treatment. He emphasizes clear explanations, informed decisions, and active involvement from patients and their families. When surgery is appropriate, he works with patients to address their health before surgery, establish realistic expectations, and develop a clear recovery plan. His goal is to help patients feel informed, prepared, and supported throughout their care.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Hoedt contributes to research and evaluates new findings in joint replacement. He serves on the editorial board of The Journal of Arthroplasty and is an Elite Reviewer for Arthroplasty Today. At the annual meeting of the American Association of Hip & Knee Surgeons, he helps select which research projects surgeons nationwide will see. His involvement reflects his commitment to critically evaluating advances in the field and using evidence to guide treatment decisions.
Dr. Hoedt is also a U.S. Army Reserve orthopedic surgeon and combat veteran. He deployed to Syria in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, returning in 2023, and received an Army Commendation Medal for his service.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Hoedt enjoys spending time with his wife and their four children. Whether attending school activities, exploring parks and beaches, or visiting family, he values the everyday experiences that make an active, healthy life meaningful.
